BSI

BSI (the British Standards Institution) is both a national standards body and a certification body. For mid-market buyers that distinction matters: the organization that publishes many of the standards you implement is also a large, independently accredited registrar that audits quality, environmental, safety, information-security, and — more recently — AI management systems.

Why buyers shortlist BSI

Operations and quality leaders often put BSI on a first-round list when they need one CB that can follow a multi-year path from ISO 9001 into ISO/IEC 27001 and ISO/IEC 42001. The firm has a deep published-standards heritage, a large auditor network, and public accreditation announcements covering Artificial Intelligence Management Systems (AIMS). That combination is useful if customer questionnaires already ask whether your certificate will be issued by a globally recognized body.

BSI is not automatically the right fit. Large global CBs can feel process-heavy for a single-site manufacturer, and audit scheduling, industry-code coverage, and local auditor availability still have to be checked in the quote.

What to verify in a quote

• Accredited scope for each standard you want on the certificate, including ISO/IEC 42001 if AI governance is in scope.
• Whether an integrated audit (for example 9001 + 27001, or 27001 + 42001) is actually offered for your sites.
• Sector experience — especially if you are in a regulated manufacturing niche.
• Transfer terms if you already hold certificates with another registrar.
