DEKRA

German testing and certification group with North American and global management-system certification entities.

DEKRA is a German testing, inspection, and certification group with a sizable automotive and industrial following. The name comes from its origin as a motor-vehicle inspection association (Deutscher Kraftfahrzeug-Überwachungs-Verein) in 1925; the group is now headquartered in Stuttgart and operates inspection, testing, and certification businesses well beyond vehicles. Its certification companies issue management-system certificates for quality, environment, safety, and information security in Europe, North America, and other regions.

For a mid-market manufacturer that already sees DEKRA on a shop-floor inspection, vehicle, or workplace-safety invoice, adding ISO 9001 or ISO 45001 through a DEKRA certification entity can reduce vendor sprawl — if the accredited scope and IAF codes match the plants on the RFQ. That industrial familiarity is not automatic competence for an ISMS or an AIMS.

Shortlist logic

Manufacturers that already use DEKRA for vehicle, industrial, or workplace-safety services sometimes want one more familiar name on the ISO 9001 or ISO 45001 RFQ. Professional-services and technology buyers may care more about the 27001 and 42001 side. DEKRA Certification, Inc. has publicly described ANAB accreditation activity for ISO/IEC 42001; that is a reason to check DEKRA for AIMS, not a reason to skip the directory lookup.

If you already hold a certificate with another registrar and are considering DEKRA as the accepting body, treat it as a transfer, not as a new Stage 2 with a friendlier logo. Name the DEKRA legal entity that will issue.

RFQ reminders

  • Name the DEKRA legal entity that will hold the contract — group pages are not a certificate.
  • Ask for IAF-code competence and sample auditor biographies for your processes, not only automotive references.
  • Clarify whether 42001 is offered under ANAB, another AB, or not yet in your country.
  • Confirm language and shift coverage if plants sit outside Germany or the United States.

Accreditation is time-bound. Re-check shortly before Stage 1, not only when you first collect brochures. Use ANAB, the relevant European accreditation-body directory, and IAF CertSearch.
